Why I “Ship” Dean/Castiel
I’m going to tell you why exactly I “ship” Dean/Castiel. I’ll try to make this well thought out but there’s no guarantee. First and foremost, I would like to point out that these are just my thoughts and opinions and that everyone is allowed to believe what they want.
I “ship” Dean/Castiel because they love each other. I’m not going to list all the reasons why (there’s plenty of Meta out there that covers that already) but to me, it’s true that they love each other. Now who knows whether that is a physical attraction or a psychological attraction or both, who knows? Maybe Dean is bisexual or bi-curious or maybe Dean is just attracted to Cas in the psychological way which, to me, would mean that he isn’t necessarily bisexual/bi-curious. I don’t practically like putting a label on the way Dean feels about Castiel because of this aspect. I think Dean is in love with Castiel the angel no matter what body the celestial energy (I avoided saying “he” because outside of a body, angels have no gender) is in. Bottom line, Dean loves Cas.
Cas, the angel who is “indifferent to sexual orientation”, I believe has no physical attraction to Dean at all besides maybe thinking that he is beautiful because he’s one of God’s, his father, creations. I don’t think that stems into sexually attracted to him though. I think it’s purely, in Castiel’s perspective, a psychological attraction/love. And you know what? I think that’s the greatest love that is out there. I think it’s great if someone can love someone without paying attention to their looks and loves them fully by how they are as a person. Cas probably thinks Dean is the greatest person there could ever be walking the Earth and that is why he loves him. You can tell just by the way Castiel looks at Dean. I don’t know if that was Misha Collin’s and Jensen Ackle’s intention or not (I’m sure it wasn’t at first, especially since Castiel was only suppose to be in a few episodes) but later on maybe they did intend it like that. Probably not the way us shippers find it, but intentional all the while.
So over all, I “ship” Dean/Castiel because they love each other whole heartedly in a psychological way (and maybe a physical way in Dean’s case but honestly I couldn’t care less about that). They will always be there for each other and, let’s face it, forgive each other no matter what (especially when it comes to Castiel forgiving Dean).
Which brings me to what I want to see happen in the show (preferably season 9 but if they make it season 10 then I’m fine with waiting a little longer). I want to see Dean and Castiel tell each other that they love each other. Like any shipper out there, I want both characters to look each other in the eye and say “I love you.” That’s all I want. If they get into physical stuff, great, if they don’t, whatever, I’m satisfied with an “I love you.” I honestly couldn’t care less if we ever got a kiss out of the two of them or even a small little “hinted” (because let’s face it once again, unfortunately same sex love scenes never get as much attention as heterosexual ones do) sex scene out of the writers. I would love just as much as any fan girl out there if they did, but I wouldn’t flip out if they didn’t. I would be completely satisfied if Dean told Cas that he loves him and Cas said it back because I think that is what matters. I think that is their relationship. It’s not sex or anything physical, it’s just the overwhelming feeling of love.
The way I picture it happening in season 9, however way they would lead up to it, it would be Castiel who would admit his love to Dean first. If you look back on the seasons, you’ll see clearly that it is Castiel who forms the bond way before Dean does. In fact, I would even go and say Dean didn’t start to feel anything towards Castiel in the aspect of love until after season 5, maybe even half way through season 6. I believe though, that Castiel started to form a kind of love for Dean when he rebelled from Heaven. It most likely wasn’t love but more like a fondness than anything else but still it formed into a love that not a lot of people have without looking at physical attributes as well.
I know I keep going back to the physical aspect of the love and all but I think it’s important to do so because again, Cas, in my opinion, has no physical attraction to Dean what so ever (except for thinking he's beautiful). And to tie that into a physical love scene in the show, I actually think I would like it better if they didn’t show anything physical and just had the spoken confession (except hugs, they need more hugs). Not because I don’t want to see two men kissing, I have no problem with that at all, but because I think it fits their love a lot better because it’s not a physical kind of love. True it would be adorable to see Dean kiss Cas or Cas fumbling to kiss Dean (and I would die if they had Dean kiss Cas' temple or cheek), but I can live without it because their love it purely psychological. And again, I would be wholeheartedly, completely satisfied with an “I love you” and that’s it.
That’s why I “ship” Dean/Castiel. Because their love is precious and goes beyond Earth, Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory.
Edit: I've been reading A LOT of others' metas on Supernatural and especially on Destiel. Because of this, I have changed my mind. All the readings of Destiel and how much they are in love has caused me to really want Dean and Castiel to kiss.
I know exactly how I want it to go down too. I want Cas to get severely hurt (even though it'll cause my poor heart to weep) and he's "dying". Dean doesn't know if he's going to make it plus he needs to keep him awake. In order to try and wake him, he kisses Cas on the lips. Afterwards, when Cas is all better, of course, he denies the whole thing and he has to sort through his emotions and once he does figure out he loves the guy, wonder if Cas loves him back.
After that, I'm not sure what I want to happen to get Dean to realize Cas loves him as well, but either way, eventually, they'll end up together and both of them will then kiss each other in a non-life-threatening situation.
